Susan Laswell began her art career making traditional, functional baskets. As her work evolved, she started using traditional techniques to create unique, sculptural pieces.
Susan lives in North Carolina, in rural Orange County, grows a large garden, tends a flock of hens, teaches basket weaving, and shares her life with her three amazing children.
Weaving the songs of my heart fulfills my primal need to create.
My studio spills over with materials waiting, patiently, for their turn.
Baskets grace each room in my home, offering up the songs of their makers.
Surrounded by my treasure trove, I dream the pieces, then wake to begin the magic of turning the dream into reality, turning the song into a basket.
