Sumi Ink Painting on Rice Paper – Framed
These sumi inks on rice paper were painted on location. The ink is brushed on with bamboo brushes. The grayed tones are ink diluted with water. It takes a great deal of skill and concentration as the washes and brush strokes take precision and control but the most successful ones will have running and blurring effects. I love to compose with what I see and feel the linear quality going through my eye, brain to my hand.
This particular wildflower becomes prolific after a forest fire. The charred sculptural forms become a backdrop to the lacy delicate lilac pink blooms.
