Sumi Ink Painting on Rice Paper – Framed
These sumi inks on rice paper were painted on location. The ink is brushed on with bamboo brushes. The grayed tones are ink diluted with water. It takes a great deal of skill and concentration as the washes and brush strokes take precision and control but the most successful ones will have running and blurring effects. I love to compose with what I see and feel the linear quality going through my eye, brain to my hand.
The color of these pitcher plants are enhanced with a little watercolor. What a joy that we have carnivorous plants at our doorstep in Wilmington thanks to Stanley Rehder. This is to honor him for giving us the lovely park.
