How about incorporating new media into your drawing and paintings? This class, taught by mixed media artist, David Norris, combines watercolor with gouache and colored pencil using a technique inspired by 19th century artists. Beginning with a mid-tone wash to your watercolor paper gives a quick start to a vivid painting. Playing against the medium-toned background, dark colors and marks recede into the background, while white gouache, color pencil, or bright watercolor seem to jump out in front.
The toned wash also can allow a minimalist approach, with only quick touches of line and color being necessary. The background tone has a way of filling in, and making the painting look “complete”, creating a harmony of color by lending the background tint to the overlying paints.
This class is for students of all levels.
Tuition cost is $260. There will be 4 sessions for this class. Class size is limited to 7 students and will occur on Tuesdays from 10am – 1pm, September 2 – 23, 2025. Register today online!
