WORKSHOPS
Discover the Art of JoomchiThis workshop is suitable for all levels. All materials are included in the tuition.
Join teaching artist Jan Wutkowski to discover the traditional Korean technique of Joomchi, a fascinating process that transforms layers of Hanji (mulberry paper) into a beautifully textured, fabric-like material. Using only water and the movement of your hands — rubbing, squeezing, and agitating — you’ll “felt” multiple layers of paper together. As the fibers tangle and bond, they form a single, strong, lightweight sheet that can be shaped, stitched, and sculpted.
Joomchi is surprisingly durable and versatile. In this class, you’ll create at least one finished piece of your choice, such as:
-
Earrings or a necklace
-
A small vessel or tray
-
A textured book cover or box
No prior paper or fiber experience is needed.
Please note: this is not a papermaking class. Instead, you’ll learn how to transform pre-made hanji into a unique artistic medium.
- Date: Saturday, April 25
- Time: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
- Location: Art in Bloom Gallery classroom
- Instructor: Jan Wutkowski
