Meditative Drawing: From Stress to Calm-May workshopAbout The Instructor
Loraine Scalamoni began her art training in New York City at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Initially a Fashion Illustrator she worked with the figure, but in a commercial capacity. Her curiosity and desire to explore the figure more thoroughly prompted her continued studies, receiving a BFA degree in Fine Art and later an MFA from the Graduate program in Painting and Drawing at ECU.
As a figurative portrait artist Loraine explores the genre through experimentation, use of color, mark making and mixed media. She portrays her subjects through observation and intuition depicting her version of the sitter’s personality. Capturing the essence of her subject is the goal and she does so through the inclusion of objects she deems significant to the sitter, the palette she uses and the addition of patterning. Her concern is not to create an exact replica of the person but to create a mood showing a version of their personality. In addition, she has begun painting landscapes, expanding her visual vocabulary and inspired by her travels.
