Let’s explore abstract watercolor mixed media techniques including collage, stencil, pen pencil and texture. This intensive class will include handouts, demos, and in-class completion of 6-10 mini paintings. All levels are welcome!

Supplies need:
• watercolor brushes (#10 round & 1/4” wide flat)
• watercolor paint set
• 140# watercolor paper
• artist tape
• water cup
• apron
• sketchbook & sketch pen
• gluestick
Students are also welcome to bring colored pencils, markers and collage fodder, which can include papers, receipts, copies of vintage photos, tissue paper, etc. 
Other supplies will be provided.

Lunch break: We will take a 3o-minute lunch break. There is refrigerator outside the classroom for student use if you wish to bring a bag lunch. The Fresh Market is also steps away from the gallery, and offers an assortment of prepared foods.

About the instructor
Kirah is a lifelong artist with a foundation based on the fundamentals of visual storytelling. Her paintings and expressive mixed media works are deeply personal, inspired by memory, travel, the poetics of space, and patterns inherent to nature and humanness. Kirah is a dynamic instructor, lecturer, mentor and coach, leading custom studio and plein air courses for both beginner and professional artists, regionally and internationally. She is an adjunct instructor at both Cape Fear and Johnston Community Colleges. As an award-winning artist and illustrator, Kirah brings rich insight to materials and traditional and contemporary processes. You will find her splitting time between her home in the Cape Fear region of NC and Umbria, Italy.
