Debra Bucci “Spectacular Day,” Acrylic on canvas, 50″ x 26″ (Framed)
Art in Bloom Gallery is excited to pair the creations of painter Debra Bucci and ceramicist Brian Evans in their elementally inspired exhibit. After surviving an action-packed year, Debra’s newest acrylics uncover the “calm” in nature, featuring rippling waters, radiant light, and abstract textures. Meanwhile, Brian’s altered vessels emerge from nature’s fundamental building blocks. Formed from soft, wheel thrown clay, Brian’s glazes emulate the water erosion, oxidation, and scorched surfaces of nature.
Join us in the gallery on Sunday, September 21st, 2-5pm for our Artist Reception. Enjoy special refreshments, meet our artists, and enjoy live music by jazz guitarist Roger Davis!
About the Artists
Debra Bucci is a published illustrator and has achieved success as a licensed fine artist. She is honored to be the only artist to continually show at True Blue Butcher & Table for the past 4 years, and recently began another ongoing solo exhibit at Red Arrays Light Therapy Spa. Debra has a BFA in Design from Drexel University where she studied painting and enjoyed a corporate career in Package Design. She now lives in Wilmington, NC with her husband Art and dog T-Bone.
Debra is known for her vibrant and engaging floral and landscape paintings. Dynamic color palettes, moving compositions and diversity in applications all work together to enhance the depth and bring Debra’s art to life. Her inspiration comes from the highs and lows of the human experience and believes this tension makes the art connectable. Her style is rooted in realism and woven with abstract elements.
After surviving an action-packed year, Debra’s new collection is about finding the “calm” in nature. These artworks represent the earth’s elements that soothe and restore the soul.
Brian Evans was raised in Western Pennsylvania where he graduated in 1993 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Studio Art. Brian moved to Wilmington, North Carolina in 1995, entering Cape Fear Community College’s Continuing Education program where he studied ceramics under the Japanese-American potter Hiroshi Sueyoshi. In 2002, Brian became a full-time ceramic artist, becoming a founding member of Wilmington’s Coastal Carolina Clay Guild in 2007. Brian is currently the Executive President of Orange Street Pottery Incorporated which is a 501c3 organization that includes Coastal Carolina Clay Guild. After teaching pottery classes through CFCC’s Continuing Education program from 2002-2008, Brian has returned to teaching at what is now Orange Street Pottery since 2017.
In Brian‘s current body of work, he explores the fundamental building blocks of nature by incorporating the classical earth elements. The soft curves of his wheel thrown and altered vessels reveal the soft nature of clay which is born from the earth through the decomposition of rock by means of erosion. His glazes emulate the weathering processes in nature, to include water erosion, oxidation, patinaed metal, and scorched surfaces.
The lines and curves of Brian‘s sculptural work draw the viewer’s eye around and through the pieces. When the light shines on his pieces, it paints an interesting shadow on the surface and on the wall behind. His tubular sculptures portray curvy playful lines that imply motion that swirls around and extends beyond their own space.
