About the Series:
The old and weathered ceiling tile spoke to me of another time. So, I looked towards the Ottoman Empire in the time of Suleiman the Magnificent in the 16th century. Here I found Roxelana, the Hurrem Sultana who ruled from behind the veil. She had been kidnapped from her home in Ukraine and brought to the Sultan’s harem. She rose from there to become the most powerful woman in the Ottoman Empire. I imagine she sometimes dreamt of home.
